The Fashion Girl’s DIY Guide To Uneven Hemmed Jeans

Earlier this month I posted a fashion post  5 ways to upcycle your favorite Denim Jeans.  This post shows you ways to keep your favorite denim jeans around for another lifespan.  When I wore my uneven hemmed jeans they became an instant conversation piece for the day!

Your Turn

If you are like “Ugh…I don’t want to try this on my favorite pair or jean–I might really mess them up!” then you can travel down, or up, to your local thrift store and get a pair from there.

When I wore my uneven hemmed jeans they became an instant conversation piece for the day!

Co-Heir, you better believe that is exactly what I did.  These babies were only $3.75.  I was not about to be messing up any of my jeans for the sake of a DIY project.  In all honesty though, this project was so easy and doable in 10 minutes or less, even for a beginner!!  Let’s jump right in.

You’ll Need:

  • Fabric scissors
  • Fabric Pins
  • Denim (we used a pair of jeans from Goodwill)

Optional:

  • Seam ripper
  • Chalk

Time needed: 10 minutes.

Turn any pair of jeans into a fashionable conversation piece that’s trendy, edgy, and chic!

  1. Trim the Hem

Start with a pair of denim jeans of your choosing and cut the hem off the bottom of each leg. Uneven Hemmed Denim

  2. Measure and Mark

Using a ruler mark where you want the front hem to be cut.  A good measurement is 2-3 inches higher than the back hem.  Mark this length with pins or by drawing an even line across the front with your chalk.Uneven Hemmed Denim

  3. Cut

Use the seam ripper to remove the side hems up to the marked line.  If you don’t have as seam ripper, cutting up the side with scissors will work just fine.  Next, cut across, using the drawn line as a guide. Uneven Hemmed Denim

  4. Pull

Pull a few of the horizontal white threads from the front and back hem.  Uneven Hemmed Denim

  5. Wash and Wear

Throw those babies in the wash and dry cycle.  This gives the jeans the perfect frayed look.  Cut away any excessive undesirable threads.  Finally, pair these jeans with your favorite flats, heels, or boots.

Girl, you got this!  I can’t wait to hear how you “DID THAT!”.  Leave your thought, pictures, and comments below.  No regrets, no looking back.  Until next time, Live in Purpose.
