When did things get so complicated?
Social Media is a beast of its own. With only two years of experience in the blogging industry, there is so much I have still yet to learn. Honestly, it’s overwhelming, especially when you try to show up on every platform imaginable to expand my reach. There are several social media possibilities, and new ones appear regularly. Thankfully, one of the already-popular channels will serve our needs well and deliver maximum promotional benefit for most of us.
Of course, your business is unique, and you should make use of the social media avenues that best fit your own niche and style. If there is a lesser-known channel where your audience tends to gather, you should be there with them.
As a newbie starting up, I fumbled at spreading myself too thin in my limited attempts to be everywhere at once.
Lesson learned: Whatever you do, don't overextend yourself.
This notion seems to contradict the action word “expand.” How am I supposed to do “greater works,” make an impact, become who I have been called to be, or grow my business larger or more extensive if I am not expanding myself across the social channels? Especially during a time of social distancing! I readily recall Jesus’ statement in John 14:12 reading, “greater works than these shall (s)he do; because I go unto my Father.”
Doing it The World’s Way
The world will tell you business growth is dependent on increasing the number of potential customers you have access to. In essence, your reach metric determines your business growth. The more customers you have, the more money you make. This type of thinking is not entirely correct! Yes, you can see tics of upward change by doing it your way, but for how long? You can reach people all day long and still never make a dollar, increase your following, see an uptick in readers or make an impact.
Doing it God’s Way
The expansion is not by our doing, might, nor by our power. We expand through the reach of God, and he uses our lives, our gifts, and our talents to make an impact in the lives of others. We have the power to influence the thinking, attitude, and views of people. When you are doing this God’s way, the word will get out about your works. In exchange for you doing it though the reach of God, Jesus proclaims in John 12:32, “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself.”
I declare the people, customers, readers, followers, clients, resources, investors will “all” come with a desire and inclination from God. My impact will be vaster than Jesus’ three years of ministry. As a result, my impression metrics, the number of times my ministry, my product, or content is seen, will improve. Ultimately augmenting my engagement, the number of times I can generate interaction through my content, and the capacity to provoke emotions.
My advice to you is to stop studying your inabilities and dwelling in insecurities, yet instead shift your thoughts to “God is. God can. God has. God is doing; therefore, you are equipped to do greater works!”
