One Major Key COVID-19 Has Taught Me

Stop thinking of it as a side hustle when it’s really an essential hustle–it’s your legacy, build it with care.

While hovering over the pages of my college read “What Color Is Your Parachute” by Richard Bolles, five sentences struck my attention. In reading, my mind shifted to a bible study lesson I prepared titled “Life interrupted.”

In a two-minute crash course on how the world really works, Richard quoted, “For some people, a lot of people, this is the best of times. But for others of us, this is the worst of times. The rules of the game have changed. Without notice. And without warning.” All over the world, we are seeing lives being interrupted by the CORVID-19 virus leaving people in a sinking state of fear for their well-being and their financial stability.

This is the worst of times, some might say.

There is fear in our land as employers temporarily shut down operations, and families seek unemployment. Small Business owners are fearful of going out of business resulting in the temporary lay-off of employees because of slow business. Grocery stores cannot keep food and toiletries on the shelves long enough to supply the demand to anxious customers.

This is the best of times others might say.

This is the best of times. The best of times to direct your focus from relying solely on a 9-to-5 for your income. If this time of uncertainty in our world has taught me anything, it is to give some serious thought to cultivating multiple revenue streams of income. As the cost of living outpaces raises in the traditional job setting, you can only earn more money when you receive a promotion and pay increase. If you are honest with yourself, a few cents extra an hour on an “entry-level check” at a job you have been working for eight years is not where you thought you’d be after graduating with a collegiate four-year-degree.

There is room for you.

This is the best of times. The best of times to grow from the perspective of your sidepreneurship, part-time entrepreneurship. Satan wants to keep your perspective small, your heart is discouraged, and your mind questioning God as to whether there’s even space and opportunity for your idea.

Let me give you some facts. As of 2019, the State of Women-Owned Businesses Report commissioned by American Express reported that African American/Black women-owned businesses represent the highest rate of growth of any group in the number of firms between 2014 and 2019 and between 2018 and 2019 numbered at 2,681,200 or 21% of all women-owned businesses. Co-Heir, there’s space and opportunity for you in that number.

Nicole Cober, a Washington, D.C., small-business consultant and member of the National Women’s Business Council (NWBC), stated: “We need to stop thinking of it as a side hustle when it’s really an essential hustle. We have to think about our legacy and build it with care.” In other words, Co-Heir your hustle is essential to your purpose, and it deserves a carefully thought out plan. We should perceive and know what things we ought to do if we are not to waste time and energy upon unsuitable and unattainable objects.

Give yourself a start.

Madam C.J. Walker, one of America’s earliest Black female millionaires, famously said, “I got my start by giving myself a start!” I am encouraging you if you see a need in the market, before planning a strategy, recognize what you are up against Co-Heir. A real enemy is targeting you and the promises of God that apply to you.

“I got my start by giving myself a start.”

Regardless if this is the best of times or the worst of times–there are things you can do about this. Start by partnering with God in prayer to fulfill his will. Seek his guidance when looking beyond your 9-to-5 if you desire to accumulate real wealth.
