Is Entrepreneurship for you?

COVID19 has recognizably made an unprecedented change in the world we once knew.  When forced to evolve, whether you want to or not, there can lurk an uneasy vibe, like the one you have after you have fried chicken and are unsure if the smell has buried itself in your belongings. Unemployment is at a record high, many people are rethinking their career paths, and others are taking action now to maintain a steady income. Regardless of which phase you are in, I am almost certain that a quarter of us have been debating on finally starting the business. I can attest to the hesitation you may have, especially if you are the first in your family to explore, better yet even entertain this idea that you could work for yourself. Stop, breathe, count to three.  Co-Heir, it’s absolutely normal to feel that way.  So the big question is “Is Entrepreneurship For You?”

Only you can answer that question. You know what you are capable of giving and what you are not. Here are 7 questions for you to answer before you make that decision.

Q1: Are you willing to commit 20 or more hours a week to your side-hustle?

Some days might start out at 4 AM and end at 12 AM. It’s all about your commitment level. How bad do you want this dream to become your reality? Your mindset is the blueprint of how you function.

Whether you think you can or think you can’t. You are right.

Henry Ford

Q2: How do you handle moments of uncertainty?

Let’s face it; the unexpected is inevitable, and there is nothing you can do to get around it. The key to your success has nothing to do with your dealt cards, but everything to do with how you play your hand.

If you risk nothing, then you risk everything.

Genna Davis

Q3: Can you trust yourself more than you doubt yourself?

Trusting your instincts is a daily must because you are the one making all the decisions. You don’t know what you don’t know. It takes a lot of research and networking to gain knowledge, but experience to gain wisdom. Nothing in life comes ready–it’s a process, so don’t expect the journey to be comfortable.

I have not failed. I just found 10000 ways that did not work.

Thomas Edison

Q4: If you notice something needs to be done, do you get it done or wait to be told it needs to be done?

Entrepreneurs are people who tackle projects as they come up and FINISH them, they don’t wait around for instructions or a pat on the back.

You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

Zig Ziglar

Q5: Are there instances that demonstrate your capability to regularly develop and implement plans for new projects and to redirect activity on plans that aren’t working? Do you prepare in advance or wait until the last minute?

We all make mistakes, but you are less inclined to make mistakes when you prepare in advance. Not ever path you take is going to be the right path, but proactively recongnizing the signs and doing something about it will keep things moving forward

The key is not to prioritize what’s you on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.

Stephen Covey

Q6: Are you always writing down new ideas, asking “what if” questions, or researching new ways to improve current systems?

Creative thinking is the key to the leadership skills of entrepreneurs possess. Creativity is vital for all jobs in all industries, and it directly contributes to the growth and achievement of a business. What others may consider “scattered thoughts” creative thinkers embrace as “new ideas, new inventions, and new solutions to old problems. There is always something else that could be done. Word of advice: Don’t get so wrapped up in the next big thing that you forget about the current tasks at hand.

Creative people do not have a mess. They have ideas lying around everywhere.

Q7: Do you recall a time when you had to work closely with someone whom you disliked or with whom you had trouble working. Did you do anything to make the relationship work so you could succeed for your company?

Having insight on how to take advantage of new opportunities will put you ahead of the game. Are you always thinking of new ideas? Can you imagine new ways to solve problems when they arise? Creative thinking is natural in the genetic makeup of an entrepreneur.

You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in 2 years by trying to get others interested in you.
