When Fashion and Legacy Collide.

“Yasss B!” I said to myself as I listened to my friend talk about her daughter while holding my phone in my hand checking my daily insta feed. Flipping my phone up, making it visible for her to see, I reiterated “Yasss B!”  In agreement she nodded her head and said “Oh yes, I saw that.” Though this was not Beyonce’s first cover for Vogue Magazine, her fourth since 2009 if anyone’s counting, this cover revealed a level of vulnerability, power, raw beauty, simplicity, but yet editorial detail, that I found empowering and groundbreaking.

I live for beautiful photography in combination with high fashion.  Twenty-Three-year-old Tyler Mitchell, a rising young black photographer from Atlanta, was hand-selected by the star to capture the visual art.  What a job well done Tyler!

Is it just me, or did you also think about hanging a blanket over a clothes line to replicate the fierce, queen mentality showcased within the pages of Vogue?

Beyoncé in Her Own Words she speaks about her Life, her Body, and her Heritage.  With twenty years of success this wife, and mother of three is obviously doing something right.   I listed few quotes that impacted my perspective, and became nuggets of reminders to enjoy the “different shades” of my journey.

Pregnancy and Body Acceptance

“During my recovery, I gave myself self-love and self-care, and I embraced being curvier. I accepted what my body wanted to be.”

Beyonce

Opening Doors

“If people in powerful positions continue to hire and cast only people who look like them, sound like them, come from the same neighborhoods they grew up in, they will never have a greater understanding of experiences different from their own.”

Beyonce

Ancestry

“Connecting to the past and knowing our history makes us both bruised and beautiful.”

Beyonce

(Her) Journey

“There are many shades on every journey. Nothing is black or white.”

Beyonce

Freedom

“I’m not alive unless I am creating something.”

Beyonce

Coachella

“I was so specific because I’d seen it, I’d heard it, and it was already written inside of me.”

Beyonce

OTRII

“To see such human growth and connection—I live for those moments.”

Beyonce

Legacy

“I’ve worked long and hard to be able to get to a place where I can choose to surround myself with what fulfills and inspires me.”
